Randy Borchardt, also known as the Human Fly, first appeared in *The Amazing Spider-Man Annual* #10 (October 1976). A daring stuntman, Borchardt sought greater fame and fortune.
He gained his powers, including the ability to adhere to surfaces, after consuming a radioactive mutagen created by Dr. Harlan Stillwell (the brother of Spencer Stillwell, who created the Spider-Slayers). Stillwell intended to use the mutagen to create super-soldiers, but Borchardt stole it.
The mutagen granted Borchardt incredible abilities but also began to affect his mind. The Human Fly, despite attempts to use his powers for good, frequently clashed with Spider-Man. His story is often a cautionary tale about ambition and the dangers of unchecked power.
